Credit Cards With Bad Credit

Your Options for Credit Cards With Bad Credit

You are actually very fortunate now as there are many companies that now offer credit cards with bad credit history.

It was not that long ago that your options are very limited, but now you have many companies to choose from when you decide that you want to credit card and you happen to have bad credit.

Having bad credit is not that terrible as you can always repair your credit rating. It does present a problem when you do need to get loans or credit cards in that you are not always offered to best rates and terms. This does not mean you do not have options and you cannot get decent credit cards or decent loans.

Now you have to keep in mind how bad your bad credit is, as if you are currently delinquent on many accounts you will have a harder time finding what you need as opposed to the person who last made a late payment even a few months ago. The trick is that you must be currently paying all of your bills on time. If you're credit report shows that you are currently not making any of your payments on time, your options are going to be very limited. You can still get a credit card, but it will most definitely be a secured credit card with a low credit limit if you are currently delinquent on many of your bills.

If you are currently paying all of your bills on time, you will have to know that in addition to being able to get credit cards with bad credit, these credit cards will actually increase your credit scores. They do this because they add a fresh new line of credit to your credit report. All you have to do is make all of your payments on time and this new credit card will increase your credit scores. Most credit cards now will tell you that they do report your used to all credit bureaus and this is what you need if you also want this card to help rebuild and repair your damaged credit.

If your credit rating makes it impossible to obtain a traditional credit card, you do have some other options.  Regardless of your financial situation, you may be eligible for credit cards with bad credit.  However, you should have some basic information about these cards before you decide to apply. They are not alike, and they are different from traditional cards. Credit cards perfect credit range from secured credit cards with very high fees and low limits to unsecured cards with low limits and very high fees as well. You can get decent credit cards with a bad credit rating, and this is becoming more common as more companies are now competing for your business. I do so just that you compare the offers and make sure you do not get stuck with one of these companies that charge you too much for the use of one of these cards as you can get cards that offer a fair fee and decent credit limits.

The most popular option for people with poor credit is a secured credit card.  The way secured cards work is the applicant provides a security deposit, and receives a credit limit for that amount in return.  One benefit of this type of card is it can help you improve your credit score.  Companies that issue these cards report to the major credit bureaus. This is a huge bonus that I will go into soon.

The secured credit card is by far the best option if you currently have a bad credit rating. These cards are given out to just about anyone and they are used and treated just as any other credit card. The benefits to you, as the holder, are the same as a normal credit card and they are accepted anywhere. They are a credit card; the only difference being is that you have given a security deposit to the issuing company that is equal to your credit limit. This may seem rough, but if you have gone without having a credit card, you quickly realize that credit cards are needed for so many things. From booking a hotel room, or buying things online, or if by chance you do not have cash on you. I actually hold two of these cards and I even use them on occasion. I pay the bills in full as soon as I get them, but they come in handy, as any credit card does.

The reason I carry two of these, is that I am building two new lines of credit to my previously damaged credit history. These two cards appear to everyone, including the credit bureaus, as regular credit cards. So as long as you pay your bills on time, these give you a big boost in your scores.

In addition, if you can afford a higher deposit, a higher limit secured card gives you more help with your credit repair. However, even if you can only afford to deposit a few hundred dollars, you get a boost in your credit repair and the benefit of a credit card. It is a win-win situation.

A second option is an unsecured card.  While some of these companies offer an impressive credit limit, unsecured cards usually come with one or two additional requirements.  First, while unsecured cards do not require security deposits, many do require a rather large processing fee.  Second, you will not necessarily be able to use your credit however you choose.  Many companies offer a nice line of credit, but only for specific uses.  You may find your credit is only good for merchandise the company offers. If you do find an unsecured credit card that acts as a normal credit card, you will see that the credit line is very low and the fees are very high. Personally, I avoid these and just go for the secured cards, as at least you can control the costs, and the issuing companies are much more reputable.

There are benefits to using these cards.  The chance to rebuild your credit is one benefit.  Not only will your score improve, but you can become eligible for the kind of card you really want.  The interest rates are also reasonable.  While companies differ, some offer additional benefits.  Some examples you can find include getting cash back from card use, and earning air miles and other rewards.  These perks can be quite useful.

However, it is always essential to thoroughly read the terms and conditions when applying for any card.  If you take the term "credit card" to mean credit is yours to use as you see fit, or that you will not have to pay anything other than a monthly bill, you could end up very disappointed.  Although many of the companies that issue these cards are legitimate, you cannot count on getting something for nothing.  If your credit scores are very poor, you cannot expect to receive unlimited use of credit free of charge. Your options will actually be limited to cards that are secured by your own deposit or if you do get an unsecured card it will have a very low credit limit. Additionally, you want to check the fees that they charge the day that your are actually going to complete their application. I have reviewed and offer one day only to come back the next day and see that there fees for higher. Always make sure you know what you are agreeing to before you sign an application.

Another benefit as I have mentioned before that is also a good reason to choose one of these cards is the need to improve a credit rating.  This can be very helpful for your long-term financial goals.  You may have plans to buy a home, take out a loan, or some other plan that requires good credit.  Even if you do not have any specific plans, you will always benefit from an excellent rating.  If you do not expect credit cards with bad credit to be a source of free money with no strings attached, a card may be a good solution for you.  It can be a positive step in turning low scores into excellent scores, and put you on the path to a more secure financial future.

So now, it is time to select the best credit cards with bad credit to fit your needs. As long as the company says will accept bad credit or poor credit, then they have options for you. Again, my preference is the secured card. You can compare all the options, such as those featured here, and see that you do have many choices.

Nevertheless, in the end, I look for the lowest annual fee and I make sure they report to the major credit agencies. After that, any additional features are up to you. I know that they work as I have seen what they have done to raise my credit scores. Moreover, I have seen how they work when I need to buy something online, rent a car or anything that a prepaid card, or debit card, does not work with.

Look at the many options you see listed here for bad credit, select one or two after carefully comparing their features, and start enjoying the benefits of having a real credit card.
